About the Forest Stewardship Council
The Forest Stewardship Council was created to change the dialogue about and the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide. This impressive goal has in many ways been achieved, yet there is more work to be done. FSC sets forth principles, criteria, and standards that span economic, social, and environmental concerns. The FSC standards represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes. Like the forestry profession itself, the FSC system includes stakeholders with a diverse array of perspectives on what represents a well-managed and sustainable forest. While the discussion continues, the FSC standards for forest management have now been applied in over 57 countries around the world.
In 1995, FSC-US, located in Washington, D.C., was established as the national “chapter” of FSC.
It’s purpose is to coordinate the development of forest management standards throughout the different biogeographic regions of the U.S., to provide public information about certification and FSC, and to work with certification organizations to promote FSC certification in the U.S.FSC-US has a national presence through the work of its Board of Directors, members, staff, and regional standards coordinators.
About the Sustainable Forestry Initiative
SFI Inc. is a fully independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. We work with conservation groups, local communities, resource professionals, landowners, and countless other organizations and individuals who share our passion for responsible forest management.
Our Board of Directors represents environmental, social and economic interests equally, and we address local needs through a unique grassroots network of SFI Implementation Committees.
Our forest certification standard is based on principles that promote sustainable forest management, including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk, and forests with exceptional conservation value.
The standard is used widely across North America, and has strong acceptance in the global marketplace so we can deliver a steady supply of third-party certified wood from well-managed forests. This is especially important because of the growing demand for green building and responsible paper purchasing at a time when only 10 percent of the world’s forests are certified.
Fresco is not FSC or SFI Certified
Fresco provides the convenience of connecting resources for these products and does not claim to be certified. It is our belief that clients appreciate convenience, therefore we will order these materials, including the documentation and chain-of-custody certificates, and spot-ship these materials directly to a project. Price competitiveness, prompt service, and thorough screening to ensure authenticity is all we promise and 'certify'.
Here is an excerpt from the FSC website:
Any operation making, changing, trading, re-labeling or repackaging FSC certified products needs to beCoC certified in order to use the FSC trademarks and to enable its customers to make an FSC claim about these products. Retailers were traditionally seen as the end of the supply chain; today Brokers or agents, who neither take physical nor legal possession of the products, and retailers, who sell FSC products to end consumers that do not want to make an FSC claim, usually do not need to become certified.
In other words, you can 'sell' it, but cannot 'claim' it. Interesting.
No worries for our clients - we will work out a deal where the actual certificate holder sells directly to you, which will not break the chain-of-custody.
We will drop ship directly to your project!
Some material providers will ship for no cost, and others have freight charges. We will be certain to order according to your project needs, considering any cost factors that may impact you.
